sWM - version 1.3.4, 06-feb-2002
================================

What is sWM
-----------
sWM is a very small and fast window manager for the X Window System. It
should run under any version of Linux, BSD, UNIX and other compatible operating
systems. It is designed to be fast and efficient and even runs on Linux-PDAs
such as the Compaq iPAQ. If you use it on a rather unusual or exotic plattform
please *please* send me a mail so your system can be listed. :-)
sWM was tested under: Linux Mandrake 8.1, Linux Mandrake 8.0, RedHat 6.0,
Debian 2.0

Reqirements
-----------

Hardware

Basically any computer system that is able to open a X11 session, but it is
strongly recommanded to use a 2 or 3 button mouse. You should have at least
4 megs of memory. (With a small XFREE)
sWM runs perfectly on my 486 (25MHz) with 6 megs RAM and an old ISA graphics
card. (With full pixmap support) sWM needs a minimum of 13840 bytes on your
harddisk, depending on your selected features and configuration.

Software

You need at least X11 correctly installed. To use stdio-features, you have to
install the stdlib-devel package to compile swm yourself.
It's a good idea to install the rxvt package too since it consumes very little
memory.
If you intend to use the full featured swm (as on the screenshot) you must have
installed gnome-core. (for panel)

If you plan to compile swm yourself - wich is strongly recommended-
it is a good idea to install the devellopment packages of X11 and stdio. Use
the configure-swm script to configure swm or edit swm.conf if you really know
what you are doing. Please also edit startswm before installing swm.

Building
--------
There will be no autoconf compatible "configure" script. Just type "make".
If compilation fails, it's a good idea to edit the Makefile before.

Usage
-----
There is nothing special about swm. Just read the man-page or take a look at
the picture doc/swmdoc-1.3.0-small.jpg
Or download the reference-card from my webpage: www.small-window-manager.de

Bugs
----
If you find any *please* send me a mail.

Uninstallation
--------------
You can easyly remove swm by typing "make uninstall" in the src-subdirectory.
