It is possible to modify TechNES to fit your personal needs. Only a few
basic options are available, though. The Preferences dialog can be found in Options > Preferences.
Use database - If checked, the program will use the internal
database to retrieve information about any *.nes file that is open. Otherwise, the
information contained within the *.nes file itself will be used. The headers of
these files are often incorrect
or corrupt, but even if they are correct, the information therein is sometimes
insufficient. It is recommended that you keep this box checked.
Automatic power-on - This controls how TechNES
simulates the power-on procedure of an actual Nintendo console. If checked, the
program will
automatically "flip the switch" and run the *.nes file that has been opened. If
unchecked, the game will not run and you have to "turn on" the console using
NES > Power.
Auto-hide menu - Check this if you want the menu to
be hidden when a game has been opened.
Preferred system - There are two types of Nintendo NES
consoles; PAL
(Europe and the Near-East) and NTSC (the Americas and the Far-East). Their respective microprocessors run at
different speeds to accommodate the different TV systems. Most games are designed
to run on either one of these systems.
However, some games can run on both systems. Here, you can select which system
you would prefer for those games. Your selection here will also be used if the
game's native system can not be determined.
